Track & Field Event

On Friday the 19th and Sunday the 28th February the BIS-NY Track & Field team ran in
competitions at the Armory Indoor Track in Washington Heights.
Seventeen students raced in events ranging from 55m to the 800m, and we had three entries in the relay category. The second event was the Junior Olympic Eastern Zone Championship, in which all the athletes performed exceptionally well, and all improved previous race times.
Mentions must go to the three 4x200m relay teams who were all placed in their respective races. The Boy’s ‘Midget’ team of; Sam, Piers, Luucas, and Dominic came third in their race. The Boy’s ‘Bantam’ team of; Harry, Thomas, Bolu and Haskell also came third. The Girl’s ‘Bantam’ team of; Sophie , Honor , Ella and Lettice came FIRST in their race. All the relay athletes were duly rewarded with a medal for their performance. Special mention must also go to Sophie Hosking, Luke, Claude, and Oliver who competed in three individual races and each improved their times from the first meet to the second meet.
Miss Campbell and Mr. O’Connell would like to congratulate all the students who competed, not only for their performances, but also for the positive representation of BIS-NY and the support they showed each other throughout. The whole team would like to thank all the parents who came to watch. The encouragement that was provided through the day was invaluable to the athletes, and the day would not have been as successful without you.
The team will be competing in the last indoor meet of the season this Saturday, for which we wish them all the best.
