For the year three PYP unit of inquiry called ‘Sound’, students studied in art the painting by Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky called ‘Composition X’. Kandinsky wrote that “music is the ultimate teacher” and created 10 Compositions.
The students made drawings while listening to classical music using various drawing mediums. During this time The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall announced a contest for children to create the cover art for the KidsNotes, the Family concert program book, the winners work will also appear on the Carnegie Hall website. All the artwork year three made during this unit of inquiry on ‘Sound’was considered for entry and each student chose a drawing they had made to be entered. A few weeks later Ella Thornton was contacted and told she was the winning entry!
Ella said, “I was really excited and happy about winning”.
BIS-NY congratulates Ella on her win and is very proud of her achievements in such a prestigious forum!
